Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year:
Each year Pantone selects the color of the year. Pantone’s color of the year picks influence many industries, including fashion, beauty and cosmetics, home décor, and more. For 2019, Pantone chose Living Coral as the color of the year. They describe this shade as:
An animating and life-affirming
coral hue with a golden undertone
that energizes and enlivens
with a softer edge
Vibrant, yet mellow PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.
In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy. Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.
Representing the fusion of modern life, PANTONE Living Coral is a nurturing color that appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media.
I could not be happier about Living Coral as the color of the year 2019. Firstly, I have always loved this color. It reminds of the juicy fresh tang of a grapefruit. It reminds me of the warmth of summer. It reminds me of vibrant femininity.
After the last few years of work stress, horror and disbelief at political happenings, and personal loss, I am ready to embrace this playful and joyful color for the new year. I could use some levity!
This blog post will be dedicated to teaching you options for how to wear Living Coral throughout 2019 and beyond!
Option 1: All Over Coral
The first option for wearing Living Coral is to wear it all over. Choose a dress in a solid shade of Living Coral to fully embrace this gorgeous hue. If you are blonde, this color will look especially beautiful with your coloring. When I was blonde, like in the photo above, I always loved wearing as much coral as I could!
Option #2: One Coral Clothing Item
Your next option is slightly less intense, which is to choose one clothing item (like a coral top as in the styles above) and pair with more neutral items. The first style on the left is a solid coral Tshirt paired with a simple gold necklace, jeans (from Stitch Fix), and tan booties. Easy and casual. The middle style is good for work when paired with a blazer or for going out. The coral tank is paired with a black and white polka dot skirt and black flats. A black and white crossbody (Shoedazzle) pulls the looks together. Finally, the style on the right pairs a lazer cut coral Tshirt with white skinny jeans, and coral flats.
Option #3: Coral Accessories
This option is great if you are not used to wearing this shade. Add a coral scarf to neutral leggings, tennis shoes, and a chambray for a comfortable, casual look. Or, pair an off-white sweater and black leggings with a coral necklace and flats. Charming Charlie is the perfect place to shop for affordable accessories by color!
Option #4: Patterns with Coral
The last option for how to wear Living Coral is my personal favorite. Looking for patterns that include the shade of coral is the most creative way to incorporate this color into your wardrobe. You can accessorize with neutral colors, bring out the other colors in the pattern like I did with the mint crossbody heels, or of course, pair with more coral accessories!
