I am going to show you how to wear a maxi dress in 8 different ways.
The maxi dress is one of the absolute must haves in every woman’s closet. Maxi dresses are so versatile and comfortable, and can be styled to wear in various seasons. Below are some of my favorite styling options for spring and summer.
I recommend getting several maxi dresses from Amazon in different colors and patterns. You can even experiment with different sleeve lengths. Try these all under $25 to start:
1. Add fun and colorful accessories
My first way to style a maxi dress is to add fun and colorful accessories. There are so many playful trends this spring and summer season in accessories. Try these rainbow Mini Tassle Hoop Earrings from Shein for only $3 or try out Baublebar or their more affordable line, Sugarfix at Target!Summer Fun Sale – $10 off orders of $99 or more at us.SHEIN.com with code SUGAR10 Offer Expires – 05/27
2. Layer with a button down shirt
My second way to style a maxi dress is to tie a button down shirt on top. I recommend looking through the Portofino shirts from Express. They always have a ton of colors and prints, and they typically have BOGO sales too, so you can stop up on these versatile basic shirts.
3. Throw in some animal print
My next styling option is to throw in some animal print with a basic maxi dress. You can’t go wrong with any animal print this spring summer season; leopard, cheetah, snakeskin…it all goes! Classic leopard is my favorite. I loved how adding these slipon sneakers immediately made this maxi dress feel more sporty and casual.
4. Pair with a printed kimono
Kimonos in prints and patterns are everywhere this season, and I am here for it! I wore this orange and black tribal print kimono and felt like a jungle goddess. The colors remind me of a tiger, or monarch butterfly.
Try these other fun kimonos:
5. Add a floppy hat and statement necklace
Next, protect your pretty face from the summer sun with a floppy hat. Target has a bunch of fun styles right now. I bought this unique necklace several years ago from Noonday Collection (all their jewelry is made by women in poverty stricken and war torn countries) and have not found anything like it before or since…but I did my best and linked a similar option below. I plan on wearing this styled maxi look to dinner on the patio on a sunny day.
6. Wear with a fedora and straw bag
Is there any outfit that says “Vacation!” more than this? I bought this fedora while on vacation in Puerto Rico, and it has been my “vacation hat” ever since. And I know you have been seeing these straw bags all over your instagram, so its time to go out and buy one for this summer! This bag was under $20 at Shein, but they keep selling out. Here are some more options, and here and here.
7. Tie on a chambray shirt
Next, this is possibly my favorite way to style a maxi dress. Add that other must-have item…a chambray shirt! You can wear a chambray open like a shacket (shirt/jacket), or tie it at the bottom like I did here. So simple, yet looks trendy and put together.
8. Make it work for work with a blazer
Finally, I bring you an option for wearing a maxi dress to work or the office. Add a blazer and pair with sensible heels or flats. Boom, instant work attire!
